We went on the fabulous Downton Abby and Village Small Group tour this week, and highly recommend it! Our guide, Jed, was wonderful, filling the day with lots of information and fun. Our group was small - 17 people in a small bus with lots of room - a very comfortable ride. We spent an hour in Bampton where Jed pointed out seveal of the filming locations, showing us the scene from the movie in a colorful flip book. It was so much fun to see! And then on to Highclere Castle which was incredible. Jed gave us a helpful color guide of the rooms we would walk through and how they fit into the show. We were on our own for about 3 hours to explore the castle and the beautiful grounds and have a leisurely lunch. I highly recommend this tour!

Seeing the quaint village of Bampton brings Downton Abbey to life. Highclere Castle is even more amazing in real life than on TV. The thousands of books in the library, the period furniture and original paintings are stunning even if you’re not a Downton Abbey fan.

I booked this tour through trip advisor through Britmovietours after being unsuccessful in obtaining tickets to Highclere Castle on their main website as they were sold out. This tour includes a bus ride to Brampton (the village Downton was filmed in) and then included admission to Highcelere Castle. This tour exceeded our expectations. Pick up location/instructions were very clear. Pick up/transfer was timely. Of note, this tour is an all day event. I chose the 9am pick up time. It was a two hour ride to Brampton and then another hour ride from Brampton to the castle. We had about two hours at the castle, which was plenty, and arrived back to central London around 6PM. Our tour guide, Rory, was phenomenal. He was exceptionally knowledgeable about not only British history, but all things Downton Abbey. He made the long ride very enjoyable and helped point out specific landmarks/scenes that were filmed in Brampton which made it more personal. For anyone who is a Downton Abbey fan, this was an excellent experience and I highly recommend!

The guide! He made it a great day! I think his name is Michael. Not much to say but the ride wouldn't have been as much fun if it wasn't for him. The driver was great too.

Really enjoyed the guided tour of the Village of Bampton. The guide shared pictures and stories of the houses and church green and how they were used for the show Downton Abbey. The guide was very engaging and made the ride there and back enjoyable. We even got to test our knowledge of some of the Downton characters. The visit to Highclere Castle was better than my previous visit with more rooms available for viewing. We also had the opportunity to meet and chat with Fiona Carnarvon, the Lady of the castle.

We really enjoyed the tour-our guide Ava was very informative. Our driver Paul did a great job as well. It was fun to visit the village of Bampton and see firsthand where many of the scenes were filmed. The castle was beautiful. We arrived in pouring rain and appreciated that we were allowed to enter the castle before our designated time due to the rain. We only have two complaints: 1-while we were watching the Downton Abbey episodes on the bus, our guide and driver had a fairly loud conversation, making it a bit difficult to hear, but at least there were subtitles. 2-due to a tube stop closure, we were dropped off at a different location than our meeting spot-our guide thought it would be more helpful for everyone, but we had a 10 minute walk back to our hotel, which was across the street from our meeting spot. We definitely enjoyed the day and enjoyed the tour-it was a lot of fun and we’re happy that we went on the tour.

This trip was disappointing. Deceptive advertising- the info blurb says the small group tour had “ a maximum of 15” but there were 18 on our tour. The tour bus had NO legroom- all of us had our knees jammed in, my 6’1 and 6’2 husband and son had to stick their legs out into the aisle to get moderately comfortable. Other participants complained of this as well. Our tour guide Jed was very nice but the amount of content re Downton Abbey could be improved. He did do a fun quiz on the way home. All told, it was clear that quality was sacrificed so that the organizing company could squeeze out extra money from these tours- the coach comfort has GOT to be improved. If the trip serves a maximum of 15 as advertised then stick to your own advertised standard- and take out the extra seats that makes everyone feel jammed in! The uncomfortable seats set off the trip on a bad note- unnecessarily.
