Virgin Mary Metekhi church is located on the left bank of the river Mtkvari, on the cliff plateau. The first church on this place was probably built by Vakhtang Gorgasali, symbolically resembling the church built on virgin Mary’s tomb in Gethsemane garden in Jerusalem. According to the legend, the former catholicos Kirion transferred the saint Shushanik to this church in the 7th century.

Vakhtang I Gorgasali, of the Chosroid dynasty, was a king of Iberia, natively known as Kartli, in the second half of the 5th and first quarter of the 6th century. Dating Vakhtang's reign is problematic. With the alliance to the Byzantine Empire, he led his people into a lengthy struggle against Sasanian Iranian hegemony, which ended in Vakhtang's defeat and the weakening of the kingdom of Iberia. Tradition also ascribes his reorganization of the Georgian Orthodox Church and the foundation of Tbilisi, Georgia's modern capital. Ivane Javakhishvili assigns to Vakhtang's rule the dates c. 449–502, while Cyril Toumanoff suggests 447–522.

Rike park is considered to be the youngest recreational area in Tbilisi. It is situated on the left bank of the river Kura (Mtkvari) and has already become a popular place for both local and international visitors, especially families, and in summer. The Rike park is relatively easy to find, as its main entrance is right from the beautiful pedestrian ‘Bridge of Peace.’ The park hosts numerous entertainment facilities like singing and dancing fountains, artificial climbing walls, children’s maze, mega-chess boards, footpaths, and quiet corners. The start point of a newly opened cable car that takes visitors up to Narikala fortress is located in the Rike park and several fancy bars and restaurants.

Bridge of Peace is the attraction one wouldn’t want to miss in Tbilisi. A pedestrian glass and steel bridge in a bow-shaped design sit over the Mtkvari (Kura) river in the Georgian capital. It was officially opened in May 2010. The bridge was brought to Georgia from Italy in 200 unassembled components. The bridge is 156 meters long and has more than 10 000 LED bulbs built-in that are switched on daily 90 minutes before the sunset.

In 2010 Rezo Gabriadze built a unique clock tower next to the marionette theatre in Tbilisi's old town. Every hour an angel comes out with a small hammer to ring the bell. There is a small puppet theatre inside the tower, and twice a day, at 12:00 and 19:00, you can see a show – “The Circle of Life.” Rezo decorated the tower with hundreds of tiles, which he designed himself, and then it instantly became a prominent architectural attraction of Tbilisi. People often call it the Tower with a clock or The Tower with the angel.

In the historical district, in upper Kala, on Shavteli street, the Anchiskhati basilica is located, the church dates back to the 6th century. According to the historical sources, it was constructed by Dachi Ujarmeli ( from Ujarma). It was bearing the name of the Virgin Mary’s Birth. The name Anchiskhati was given to it a little bit later. When Peter Meskhi moved the image of Christ not made by hand from the Anchi church to this one in 1675, Peter was granted the position of a pastor by the Catholicon Domenici. From this day on, the Meskhishvilis were pastors of the church. The son of Peter- Alex is the founder of the calligraphers’ dynasty called the Aleximaskhishvilis.

We stop at the Patriarchate of Georgia and hear interesting facts about the place.

Sioni Cathedral is located on the street having the same name, in one of the oldest districts of Tbilisi, in upper Kala. According to the legend, the first church on the very place was constructed by King Vakhtang Gorgasali in the 5th century,

Tamada means a toastmaster in Georgian. We stop at a place and hear exciting stories about this tradition of toastmastering.

Shardeni Street is one of the most popular and beautiful streets in Tbilisi. This pedestrian street is so well known that any guest that travels to Georgia never leaves this country without visiting Shardeni Street.

We use a cable car to get to Mother of Georgia's statue and see amazing views from there.

Kartvlis Deda (Mother of a Georgian), erroneously known as Kartlis Deda, is a monument in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, which has become a city symbol. The statue was erected on the top of Sololaki hill in 1958, the year Tbilisi celebrated its 1500th anniversary. Prominent Georgian sculptor Elguja Amashukeli designed the twenty-meter aluminum figure of a woman in a Georgian national dress. She symbolizes the Georgian national character: in her left hand, she holds a bowl of wine to greet those who come as friends, and in her right hand is a sword for those who come as enemies.

Narikala fortress is the most known landmark of Tbilisi. No one leaves Tbilisi without walking around this impressive fortress. You can feel the history of Tbilisi, even though the walls are not in great shape. During the day, the Narikala Fortress draws your attention from all sides of Tbilisi. It overlooks Mtkvari River, which makes Narikala more incredible. Narikala is one of the most visited places in Tbilisi.

During the walking tour, we have the possibility to visit a mosque as well and hear how important tolerance is for the country.

Leghvtakhevi is the waterfall we visit during the tour; the place is popular among Georgians and foreigners to chill when it's hot.

Chreli Abano is a place for a sulfur bath that is so popular among tourists and Georgians. The site looks like a mosque, but it's a sulfur bath, nice to visit and have fun.
19.
The “Abanotubani” is the name given to the district in the Old Town of Tbilisi. There is a whole street (Abanos Kucha) of public bathhouses that use the sulfurous waters of the many hot springs in this area.

The guide on this tour was OKI, who introduced us to the main tourist spots in Tbilisi. the capital of Georgia has its charm and is worth visiting. The tour lasted 4 hours, which passed quickly

We had ordered a day walking tour in Tbilisi and our guide was Nino a well educated young woman who knew everything and more about her home city. She answered all questions with patience facts and wit! So thanks for 3.5 very interesting hours.

We met our guide Nino precisely at 11.00 and had more then three hour of good and fun education (= pedagogical excellent) of the history of Georgia. Not a dull moment, because she varied the information all the time and was very observant to our questions.

We really enjoyed the walking tour today. Our guide Sali was very knowledgable and was terrific company. We booked a private tour very late, and the office responded immediately to settle the arrangements. We are Australian, and everyone we dealt with spoke excellent English. Well done all around!

Great experience seeing Tblisi with our walking guide Sally she was informative personable and caring and knew her city well. The red wine recommended by Sally was really nice and we both felt it was definitely different. Best welcoming at a waking tour office ever experienced great company made feel welcomed and complimentary drinks appreciated. Ten out ten 👍

David was an excellent guide with terrific English and provided a lot of detailed history throughout the tour. He was very professional, personable, and knowledgeable. He provided excellent service including taking photos when asked, explaining various historic buildings and churches and providing some fun anecdotes along the way. Highly recommend the experience which included taxi pickup and drop off, delicious wine tasting, traditional Georgian bread and lemonade, the cable car, waterfall, old city, and many other interesting sights along the way. Nina from the office provided excellent communication and we were very welcomed at the beginning of our tour.

Lado was an excellent tour guide. He has great knowledge of the city and planned the trip well, so we could cover a lot of areas in 4 hours. I highly recommend this tour as well as any others organised by the same company. If I had more time available, I would definitely explore the country with them.
