What a fun and unique experience! From getting to see an olive oil production facility, bee keeping, and having a truly “family style” Greek wine tasting experience and lunch this was one of our favorite things we did during our entire trip to Greece! Vasili is super knowledgeable about the area and had lots of fun facts to share as well, he also made us feel like we were friends coming over to visit his family’s home rather than a tour group. I would recommend this tour and company to anyone I know traveling to Greece!

A fabulous way to spend the day, really interesting and enjoyable, learning about the making of high quality olive oil, seeing honey bees producing honey and experiencing wine tasting of delicious wines made locally by our engaging host Vasili. We also enjoyed a very tasty lunch in the vineyard. Absolutely loved it and would highly recommend the tour.

Vasili is not only knowledgeable, but passionate about what he does. An old soul keeping family tradition alive while encouraging new ways of farming and wine making. If you are looking for a true family owned experience with personal touches, you won’t be disappointed with Chania Wine Tours. Vasili explains the olive oil process and wine experience expertly and in a way that simplifies the flavors and aromas of olive oil and wine. I have read and heard of wines with various characteristics and could never get how people could taste blackberry or the acidity of wine until our tour. He also mixed in just enough history of the area to enhance the experience.

Vasili and Anna Maria were very gracious on our tour. After airport delays, Vasili picked us up and showed us around Chania. The olive co-op tour and tasting was exceptional! We really enjoyed the honey bees, artisan lunch and hand crafted wine at the family vineyard. He shared the some area history and personal anecdotes. We really enjoyed the whole day. We were especially pleased that we were able to stop and pick up an extra bag for all the goodies we brought back from the excursion. I highly recommend this trip!

We had a wonderful day with Vasili. It was educational and fun. We toured a local oil mill and then drove to Vasili’s family farm where we sampled wine and honey after inspecting his bees. The experience was capped by us helping make a truly Cretan salad complemented with Vasili’s wine and local cheeses, olives, etc. Highly recommend!

If you want to touch the essence of Cretan culture and have a fun and fascinating day take Chania Wine Tours' Wine, Olive Oil and Honey tour. Vasili is a fountain of knowledge with a wonderful way of syncing Crete's past and present at his family vineyard high in the White Mountains. He's also a lovely guy who makes the best Greek salad I've ever tasted!

This is one experience you’re not going to want to miss! If you want to see and learn about local farming practices, you’ll get a firsthand experience. Our host was more than gracious, showing us his second generation family farm where the vines grow. We also had a first hand bee encounter and a fantastic home cooked lunch amongst the vineyard. It was by far our most favorite day on the island. You won’t be disappointed!

This experience was a top highlight for my wife and I on our honeymoon. Vasili was an incredible tour guide; he was knowledgeable and friendly and made everyone in the group feel comfortable. Pick-up was a breeze and our first stop was at an olive oil mill where we learned about the history of the olive / olive oil in Greece and how olive oil is produced. From there, we sampled a variety of olive oils and other products – the olive oil we tasted was the best we’ve ever had. Next, we went to Dourakis Winery for a tasting led by Vasili. We appreciated his perspective as a winemaker himself and enjoyed learning about the resurgence of the Greek wine industry and the nuances to Greek wines. We then went to Vasili’s ancestral home, where he allowed us to sample his wines straight from the barrel. We proceeded to walk about his vineyard up to a tented space where our group helped prepare a traditional Cretan salad that would be part of our lunch. Before eating, we donned beekeeping costumes and had the chance to hold screens of bees from Vasili’s beehives. This had been a point of differentiation when we were looking into different tours and it delivered as a fun and unique part of the experience. Not only did we interact with his bees, but we also had the chance to sample honey they produced, which was delicious. Vasili prepared for us a delicious pork dish and kept the wine flowing at lunch. His family’s land was located waaaay out there in the mountains and it was without a doubt one of the coolest and most tranquil places we’ve ever had a meal. Our experience wrapped up with bottling our own bottle of wine from one of his barrels, which was a very cool experience. He also treated us to some of his homemade raki. My wife and I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys food/drink experiences, wants an authentic local Cretan experience and is interested traveling off the beaten path a bit. This was truly a highlight!

My husband and I booked the Wine, Olive Oil and Honey Tour with Winemaker for early November. Much of Crete was transitioning into the non-tourist season, so I was glad we were able to still book the tour. Anna Maria was easy to communicate with and very responsive. Our tour guide was Vasili and we really enjoyed talking with him. He was a wealth of information on Crete and winemaking. Loved the wine tasting and the olive oil tour but really appreciated the picnic in Vasili's vineyard. Getting to taste the wine from the barrel and taking a bottle home was really special. And we loved the honey raki and the delicious lunch. Highly recommend!
