The Inca Trail 4-day trek is a famous hiking route in Peru that leads to the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The trail covers approximately 42 kilometers (26 miles) and takes four days to complete. The trek passes through different terrains, including high-altitude mountains, cloud forests, and subtropical jungles.

The journey begins on km 82 and follows an ancient Inca road, passing through several archaeological sites, including the ruins of Llactapata, Runkurakay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, and Wiñaywana. Along the trail, hikers can enjoy breathtaking views of the Andes Mountains and the surrounding valleys.

During the trek, hikers will climb to the highest point of the trail, known as Dead Woman's Pass, which reaches an altitude of 4,215 meters (13,828 feet). On the final day of the trek, hikers walk to the Sun Gate, the entrance to the Machu Picchu Inca citadel, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the site and surrounding mountains.

Cesar Coavoy was the best! He had lots of historical knowledge to share and made the trip fun! The food was 5 star as well… even better than restaurant quality food.

Our Inca trail trek with Tierras Vivas was top class. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Our tour guide Ceasar was fantastic, he was very fun and made the 4 days very interesting. Also the food was incredible and the porters made it a seamless experience.

Caesar and Tierras Vivas were amazing. An unbelievable experience. The porters were amazing they made 3 course meals every meal. Caesar is the funniest man I’ve ever met and very knowledgeable on nature. Highly recommend if you are going to do the Inca trail.

Truly a wonderful experience. These guys are professionals and take care of everythig for you. They do small groups compared to the 10 - 20 group size of others which makes your group more mobile and allows the guide to give more individual attention. Our guide, Nico, was very knowledgeable about the Inca civilization and the landscape. The porters were super humans carrying all our heavy equipments and making sure our tents were comfortable and warm. Finally, the cook prepared delicious meals 3 times a day, with soup, mains and dessert.

It was an awesome experience! Great scenery, many Inca ruins. It is not always an easy hike, but worth every drop of sweat. The tour guide explained many interesting things, flora, fauna and history, and did a great job motivating us.. The chef prepared amazing Peruvian food three times each day.

We had the most incredible experience with Inca Trail Machu. The coordination and communication from start to finish was excellent, and the transportation from Cusco was seamless. Our guide, Herbert, was hilarious, kind and very knowledgeable. He shared with us his deep understanding of the trail, the Andean people that built it, and the Incan Empire throughout our trek. The food, breakfast, lunch and dinner, cooked by Leon and his team was incredible! Lastly, the team of porters that supported our trip were amazing - making sure everything was setup perfectly for our arrival at each campsite. Their kindness and hospitality really added to our experience on the trail.

We passed many tour companies over the 4 day trek, and I can say without a doubt you’re in the best hands with the locally owned Inca Trail Machu.

Our time on this trek was incredible. First off, this tour company is local, operated and owned by Peruvians. If you wish to support local, I would recommend using their company rather than others which are operated out of country.
The booking system was secure and we had great communication with Judith at the head office throughout this process and the payment. I never felt concerned or unsure during this process.
The trip was well organized, coordinated, and thorough.
Our guide Herbert truly made this experience so special. It was a pleasure spending four days trekking alongside him, with lots of humor and jokes along the way. The porters were also exceptional. Our chef, Leoncio, made incredible food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Our tour was intimate as it was just my husband and I, but because of this I felt we had a more hands on experience than some of the larger tour groups, and we were able to move at our own pace rather than other tours that spent lots of time waiting around.
This is an experience I will never forget, and I leave Peru with some new friends :)

The trip was organised very well by Inca Trail Machu. From start to finish it went like clockwork. Collection from our hotel to delivery at KM 82 start point. The trip is not for the feint hearted or unmotivated as parts are quite demanding. We had all done some training hikes before we came the furthest was about 12 miles and this preparation meant we had tried all our kit before hand. Our boots were worn in so no blisters, our rucksacks, camel packs and walking poles all worked well. If you prepare yourself for this trip it is a wonderful lifetime experience. Fail to prepare and then prepare to fail!
Our guide was Herbert, who was attentive and knowledgeable about the Trail, flora and fauna. He really took to our group and was part of the banter we had along the way. Our group was ex Army friends so the banter flowed every day!
The porters were unbelievable, carrying all the camping gear and our holdalls. The chef was superb with the meals we had every day was different and all were consumed by us hungry hikers.
The hi-light was reaching Machu Picchu through the sun gate. The weather was generally good although we did have rain on the second day going up to Dead Woman's Pass. Probably the hardest part of the trek with the steep ascent challenging us all. I found the descents easier than ascending due to the altitude, but some found these quite a struggle with the uneven steep steps.
Arriving at the sun gate looking down on Machu Picchu was breath taking and the realisation that we had achieved our goal left us all quite emotional.
The weather was great for us with only one afternoon of rain, day 2 going up to Dead Woman's pass. The rest of the time it was warm during the day and chilly at night.
The worst thing for me was the toilet facilities got progressively worst the further you went along the Trail. Some of us had a bout of diarrhoea which didn't help. So take a supply of Imodium to alleviate this. Our guide Herbert would always say nothing lasts forever as we climbed up the mountain Trail and it is true if you keep going you will always get to the top.
A fantastic trip with so many wonderful memories very well worth the effort. Thank you very much Hebert and our crew of porters and the chef from Inca Trail Machu. It was an unbelievable trip of a lifetime!

We started the trip on the 1st April 2024. The guide for our group of 6 was Herbert. The trek was absolutely amazing. The scenery was breathtaking and Herbert gave us loads of opportunity to stop and take photos. He spoke good English and was very knowledgeable about the fauna and flora as well as informing us about the history of the Incas. He quickly grasped the groups ability and led us at a pace that was comfortable for us and so we were able to thoroughly enjoy the experience. He had a good sense of humour and could enjoy a joke but was equally professional at the same time. We had 12 porters in total and they did an exceptional job looking after us. Everything was ready for us at lunchtime and when we reached the campsite at the end of the day. The chef , Justin, was incredible and we were given 3 courses every meal time. The was a variety of tasty dishes to try. All in all I would thoroughly reccomend booking with this company and , if you can, request Herbert as your guide and you will not be disappointed. Hiking the Inca Trail has always been a dream for my family. Finally, we decided to take on the challenge, we booked the 4-day Inca Trail with Inca Trail Machu. Our guide JD, Our Chef Clemente and the porters did not disappoint us. The trail was challenging but worth it, we did not feel pressured on the hike. The beauty of the Andes was breathtaking and it was a lot of fun. Hiking through the Sun Gate and admiring the unparalleled majesty of Machu Picchu was indescribable. Every part of our hike and tour of Machu Picchu was made very special because JD expertly shared the history and stories of its groups. I felt very fortunate to have gone with this company.
The Inca trail to Machu Picchu was the highlight of our trip. Thank you for an amazing service)
