Starting at Saguaro Lake Guest Ranch, you and your group will kayak down a scenic thirteen mile stretch of river as it moves its way through the Tonto National Forest. Participants often witness wild horses, otters, birds and other wildlife that cool off in the river during the summer months.

We have the special privilege of being the only kayak rental company located right on the Salt River, so our trips launch directly from our site. Each reservation includes a kayak or paddleboard rental, paddle, PFD (personal flotation device) and return shuttle to starting site.

This is an UNGUIDED kayaking experience. While this is primarily a scenic float there are sections of swift water and kayakers often tip out – so be prepared to get wet.

Great float to get out of the heat. The "ranch" had all that we needed. Instructions were given and off we went. Lovely float. An oasis in the desert. The earlier the better- more wildlife including horses.

Had a great time on this trip but I was tired by the end of 4.5 hrs due to heat and loss of water bottle when I flipped.

The kayaking trip was amazing and the staff at Saguaro Lake Ranch only added to it.
It started at check-in and the friendliness continues all the way through to the pickup at the end.
Be sure to order a take out lunch for after the trip. The sandwiches are delicious.

An excellent experience with a warm and welcoming staff. Loved being able to start at the dam and being picked up at capital reef.

The kayaking was a blast. Just enough rapids to be fun, but not intimidating at all. A lot of fun for all of us. It would be suitable for anybody, but they should know how to swim. Just in case....

The Lower Salt river is a scenic spot to paddle and enjoy; the guys at Sagauro are friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We had a gorgeous day and though we didn’t see wild horses, we did see bulls, cows and some calves grazing on the banks!

We kayaked on Saguaro lake in 2023 with the ranch and had a great 2 hours. This year our family of five (ages 18 - 48) kayaked on the river. The package was for 2 hours. We were dismayed when we made it to our destination in around 45 minutes (and that was paddling slowly). Had we known how short a river run it was, we would have chosen the lake option again

(We asked that our 2 hour window on the water be honored, so we were granted the full amount of time we paid for.)

Great trip and very manageable paddle down the river! We saw turtles, cattle, and a wild black horse. A great experience with great views!

This is my 3rd kayak trip..always a favorite to take friends..the scenery is great…wild horse sightings..and the Ranch crew is always very nice, helpful, informative and friendly. This trip I neglected to check the weather (the end of March can be dicey)…he had a steady rain and 57 degrees float(not their problem..lol)…but I’ll be back with more friends and family in the future. PRO TIP: Avoid weekends in the summer..tubers gone wild is a mess to dodge thru on the river…if you want a relaxing experience-do weekdays or early morning Friday/Saturday.
