The puffin watching tour commences at our ticket office by Ægisgarður pier in the Old Harbour in downtown Reykjavík. There you can buy tickets or exchange a voucher for a prepaid trip.
The tour is a fun and easy adventure on a boat. A guide will meet you on board one of our smaller boats, which are docked at the floating pier in front of the Whale Watching Centre. Depending on the tides and conditions on the islands our captains will take you to either Akurey or Lundey. The islands are well known for their plentiful birdlife and in addition to puffins you have the opportunity to view other birds such as eider ducks, arctic terns, guillemots and cormorants.

Got a great view of puffins-swimming, flying, roosting; and enjoyed knowledgeable commentary by hosts. We were the only boat in the vicinity of the particular island we went to so it felt like a more intimate experience. Some folks were obviously prepared with their high-end cameras with ultra-long lenses, I only had my phone to take pictures, which I could see would be a wasted effort so was pleased when they said we could get free copies of tour photos by email request, and photos came promptly when requested.

The tour is very well organized. The guide had a lot of knowledge about. There are small books in different languages explaining curiosities about puffins

We had a good time on the boat. The weather was a bit cloudy but we were able to see the puffins from the boat.
The staff was friendly.

Everything we wanted and more! We were hoping to see some puffins and lo and behold, we saw thousands. Milan, the onboard marine biologist, was very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. A fantastic bucket-list adventure for our whole family!

We went out on a choppy stormy day, the 1st in 2 weeks they said due to weather cancellations, and the boat was really tossing about especially turning around the island but there they were: hundreds of puffins, and that was what we were seeking.

Milan was a great guide, and brought to life the puffins and other sea birds we saw. I loved that they share photos he took with a professional camera. I appreciated him bringing me binoculars up to the top deck.

Great Classic Puffin Cruise. We got as close as possible to the puffins, who were very active the day we went, flying all around in large groups. The Biologist on board was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of insight into puffins, responding to questions and making sure everyone onboard had binoculars. He even provided an email at the end of the cruise to get the photos he took that day with his long range camera. Only thing that would have made it better would have been to get even closer to the island...but it didn't appear that the RIB boat got much closer than we did. Overall, a tour that was well worth our time and money.

The tour left on time and we had a good amount of time at the island to see Puffins. The boat was comfortable and the crew was helpful. Extra binoculars were available on the boat. It was a wonderful way to see puffins, to enjoy the bay, and to see Reykjavik!
