The “Gem of the Island tour” takes you on an eco-friendly journey through Sint Maarten/Saint Martin where you will ride along beautiful coastline, as well as travel through the center of one of the most multicultural islands of the Caribbean.
Starting from Philipsburg, you’ll meet your guide and get an introduction to cycling in St. Maarten on your Trek Hardtail Electric-Assist Bike. After a short climb, you descend to the charming Oyster Pond Bay, a quaint residential area of the island. You will continue, crossing from the Dutch side to French St. Martin, along the eastern coastline, where you will see magnificent views of the rugged Atlantic coastline and our neighbouring island of St. Barths. Your pedaling will soon bring you to Orient Beach, referred to as “The pearl of the Caribbean” where you will have time for a cold drink and a refreshing swim.
Please note that St. Maarten does not have cycling lanes, therefore this tour requires cycling with traffic.

Benson was our tour guide. We felt very safe, he kept looking over his shoulder to see if we were keeping up. The traffic is quite tricky! He gave us a lot of information about the island and the beaches were gorgeous. Thank you Benson!

My wife and I wanted to book the Gem of the Island tour in August for our cruise in February. I emailed the company because there was not a tour listed for when our cruise was going to arrive. Within a half hour there was another time added for us and I booked it. All communications leading up to our ride were great and very informative.
We arrived on time and Jan was waiting for us with the bikes and helmets. They also had SPD pedals for us. He gave some instruction on the bike and we were off. I had a flat tire within the first 5 minutes but Jan was prepared and we had that fixed in just a short time and we were off again.
Jan is very safety conscious and was always looking back to make sure we were right with him. We made many stops to talk about some history or see some spectacular views. We truly enjoyed getting to know him and appreciate him giving us a great tour!
This is a great way to see the island!

If you’ve never ridden an E-Bike before this tour may not be for you. Traffic and rough roads could be an issue when on a bike you’re not familiar with.

If you are a cyclist visiting St Maarten, the Gem of the Island Tour with E-Bike is a fantastic way to explore the island.
Our tour guide, Jan was amazing throughout the tour and an invaluable resource for local information. We used this tour as an excursion during a Royal Caribbean cruise. Jan met us in the cruise terminal and after a quick overview of the equipment, we were off! I would recommend bringing cycling kit, but everything else is provided (bottled water, helmet and e-bike). The equipment provided worked well and we were both thankful for the e-bikes after two previous excursion stops along with the short punchy climbs on the island.
This was the highlight of the trip and I would not hesitate to book another biking tour on the island in the future. Jan was simply amazing!

Jan Beentjes was our tour leader. He made our 30km, 8 mountain ride absolutely amazing. I am 67 and rode with a friend who was celebrating his 73rd birthday. I have been to St. Marteen multiple times. This ride gave us a ground view of the island you can’t get in a bus. Walking limits the distance you can travel during a cruise stop. The bikes were great with the right amount of assist.

Booked this tour as apart of our trip for girlfriend’s birthday. We wanted to see the island but still be able to be active. Pablo was awesome on our tour and patient. He ensured we both were comfortable on our bikes before heading out. Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed the Gem of the Island e-bike tour. First time on an e-bike. Bikes were comfortable and very impressed by the assistance up and down the rolling hills of the island. Pablo was a great guide, kept us safe on the roads, and took us to beautiful viewpoints. Learned quite a bit of history on our stops as well! Great day, would highly recommend!

This bike tour requires you to pedal the whole way, which was different than a past experience we had. The bike does assist but you will need to shift gears frequently as you go up and down very steep hills. The traffic you move alongside is very busy. The tour guides were awesome and did a great job trying to make it as safe as possible. I enjoyed this tour however only gave it 4 out of 5 stars because it wasn’t very relaxing. We moved at the speed of light to get to our destinations and you couldn’t take your eye off the road for one second due to pot holes and traffic. I would go again but probably only pay half of what we paid. That said, nice staff and we don’t regret the tour.

The tour was very enjoyable. If you’re an avid biker or enjoy riding bikes in general, this is the tour for you. The E-Bikes were well worth the small investment vs. standard bikes. There are some decent hills that a good biker could conquer, but it’s vacation! Get the E-Bike! Plus the sooner you get the the halfway stop, the more time to relax at the beach. Just know you will ride with traffic occasionally (on the right like in the US). So you will want to be comfortable riding with vehicles at times. Our tour guide, Benson was fantastic and very knowledgeable! Tour took about 3hrs for us. Great day overall.
