We started the trip on the Campania Express train. Our train tickets, hand brackets for our tour, and directions on how to meet our tour guide were awaiting for us at the train station. The train was efficient but the staff on the train were openly rude to people. This was however of no consequence to us but unpleasant to witness. (We even wondered if the regular train would be as easy?) We then made our way to Herculaneum (a short 5 minute walk downhill) and was met but our guide, Fabio who recognised us by the coloured hand bracelets. He was friendly, knowledgeable and really allowed us to have an amazing experience. Herculaneum, while smaller than Pompei offers more detail I think. Once the tour was over we had time to stroll back to the train stopping for a quick limoncello and boarded our train back to Sorrento. We had a fantastic trip and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

We booked this after seeing the brochure but were charged ten euros more than advertised and told it was a "misprint".The 'special train' we were promised to Ercalano was awful being fenced off with other random passengers then as trains on strike that day left worrying when it stopped a few times (tour company still happily took our euros a few days ago knowing about this!) We had to guess where to get off and I felt very sick but no clear sign of train toilets.Herculaneum was a 10 min walk from the station and there was only us and another couple (despite being told they needed 8 for the tour??)Guide very knowledgeable and the tour itself was good but the train journey and extra cost awful.We had an issue with train ticket resolved ourselves later but Rick the manager of the tour company said he would email the very next day (he didn't).Not impressed with how the company were dishonest to people nor the awful train journey.

After reading a few negative reviews I was a little dubious about booking this trip but we had a great visit to Herculaneum. The train journey was explained to us at the station and we had our own carriage on the "tourist/express" train. Stops were clear and there were helpful staff on board. Herculaneum is a straightforward 10 min walk from the station and we were met at the entrance by our guide, Fabio. He spoke good English and gave us a thorough understanding of what Herculaneum was like before the eruption. The site is a lot more intact than Pompeii and I enjoyed it more. The train back to Sorrento was on time and although no carriage was reserved, there were plenty of seats. A holiday highlight!

The train had covered windows so we missed the station and ended up in Naples. The staff apologies and got us back to Herculaneum very quickly. We met our guide at she started the tour. Unfortunately information at each stopping point commenced before we were all in hearing distance.
