This is a unique experience that takes place at an organic community farm and kitchen run by a group of locals interested in sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Enjoy cooking and dining in a rustic, traditional, outdoor Balinese kitchen.

Walk around an organic farm to pick up ingredients, then cook and eat a traditional Balinese meal, and engage in some cultural discussion. Your fun and interactive organic farm tour lasts for about 30-45 mins as you walk through tall bushes and muddy land gathering ingredients like beans and lemongrass. After sipping on a cold beverage, and donning an apron, start by helping Kadek prepare and cook an authentic Balinese meal. Enjoy a meal of the dishes you prepared along with a couple of dishes that Kadek will have prepared in advance. Kadek will also give you a cookbook with recipes of the dishes you cooked so that you can re-create them back home!

This is NOT a ‘tourist’ trap. This is the real deal. We learned (and then ate) a 4 course meal made with fruit, herbs and veggies from the garden, fresh chicken (from their chickens) - and let’s not forget the best green beans of my life, and (of course) rice from their farm. Everything was cooked in home made coconut oil made by their neighbor (ummm yes I’m bringing a few bottles home with me). That was just the tip of the iceberg!

We were given a tour of the family compound and had all the temples and lifestyle explained to us. A tour of the garden - and then were given a treat of a traditional Balinese dance from her niece and experienced her ‘hobby’ which is weaving with the hand died yarns from her garden (yes I bought one of these exquisite pieces to hang in my house).

I experienced Soooooo much love and warmth and generosity. This is the best thing I have done in Bali so far! Do this first so you can then approach the culture with a foundatiinal understanding as you move forward with your days.

Oh, and they have a super cute brand new guest house with an infinity pool overlooking the rice gardens. I’ll definitely stay here in the future.

I can't underscore enough the uniqueness of this Travelling Spoon experience, being it is within the context of a working farm. The setting really helped us dive 'one more click' further upstream into the local food culture, than even other typical TS experiences. Kadek and his cohort Apung were so gracious with their knowledge & hospitality; we learned much not just about the ingredients & food we were handling, but about the Balinese culture that cultivates all of it. The food itself was fun and delicious. The particular highlights for me was assembling the Bumbu Bali (the base that went into multiple dishes), and shaping...then grilling and devouring... the Sate Lilit; using tuna in this case. The organic farm team have a wonderful mission, and they obviously enjoy sharing their jewel with curious & hungry visitors like us. I wish them and future TSers in Bali a future of many more rewarding encounters!

We went to Bali for our honeymoon and this ended up being the highlight of our trip. Apung was our guide for the day, with Kadek being the lead in the kitchen. Our transport service from Ubud was very prompt and we started the tour with a refreshing young coconut drink and pink guava right off the tree. Since it was low season, we were the only two people. Their regular class is able to accommodate up to 8 people.

Walking through the farm, Apung showed us the differences in balinese fruit and how to harvest galangal, ginger, turmeric, papaya, and much more. Once reaching the kitchen, we were served with a refreshing drink before getting to cooking. Everyone was attentive and patient. After our meal, we received a recipe book with everything we had prepared that day. It was truly a unique experience and we are so glad we went with this course and supported a local community.

Kadek and his team made this experience a special time during our stay in Ubud. Can only recommend it, we got a tour around the organic farm where we collected the ingredients for our cooking. Food tasted marvelous and we learned a lot about traditional meal preparation. The meal was accompanied by traditional balinese music, played by Kadek's 11-year old son. Money well spent, as it goes to maintain this organic farm.

A truly memorable and authentic Balinese experience. This is far more than “just” a cooking class, rather an immersive experience to meet an enthusiastic and engaging team from MAI Organic farm. This activity is four hours long, but at the end we found it the perfect duration as there was so much to do, learn and experience. After a warm welcome and introductory explanation, you go out to forage in the farm for the ingredients you will cook with (a highly educational experience), before learning how to prepare a Balinese meal from them. The next part involves the cooking of multiple dishes with the help of the MAI Team (led by the excellent Apung in our case) in the community kitchen which is again informative and fun. Then the finale is to eat the delicious dishes that you have prepared. We were blessed to them spend some time talking to the project’s leader Kadek who provided a fantastic insight into the work of the Pejeng community project and why it is so important for the people of the village. Highly informative and humbling. With a smooth running and inclusive transfer to/from our hotel, this finished a deeply memorable and enjoyable evening. Hugely recommended on every level

Very nice experience there,
We especially loved everything
Discovered different typical and delicious local plates. Under the very clear and cool guidelines of our chef, we used our hands to make all the steps of cooking
All of the products were super fresh and organic (Putu has almost everything in her garden, which one she introduces to us with Nice explanation)
Indeed It's more than just cooking, it is a great opportunity to deapdive into local culture and get nice discussions on the locals way of life.
Putu and familly are simply very niiiice people

Got to tour an organic farm (Mai Organic), saw all the wonderful things they're doing with the locals, and then got to cook a scrumptious feast that was some of the best food we had on our entire trip.
I can't recommend this enough.
