Jose was a great friendly operator and we were lucky to be in a small group and got to know him well. The food and drink was generous in quantity and quality. He spoke great English which was fantastic for us. We highly recommend this tour for visitors to Porto.

Working with this company is a nightmare and they are hugely disorganized! I began working with them to put together food tours in Lisbon and Porto. It took many, many emails back and forth to get answers to each email. 3-5 people would answer every email with a different answer. The most important thing to this company is getting their money. I had a group of 13 people on an intensive food and wine tour of Portugal and was only using Secret Food Tours for a few hours in Lisbon and Porto. They changed tour guides with me at the last minute for the Lisbon tour and kept confirming the wrong meeting point.
It took several emails to them before they corrected the mistake.
The Lisbon tour turned out to be amazing with a tour guide named Vanda that I can highly recommend. Our Porto guide was another story! She refused to meet us at our hotel and the meeting point was a 25 minute walk and then we ended up walking almost to our hotel for the tastings. Marta was rude, did not give us much information and all the food was cheap and horrible with no context as to why we were eating such bad food. Several people in my group did not drink and she was very disrespectful to them. One woman left the group because Marta was so unpleasant. I reported it to Secret Food Tours and they have not gotten back to me. One guest left an expensive cashmere scarf at a tea house that we went to and I sent a message to Secret Food about it. At first they said they had the scarf. I told my client and she was very excited. When I emailed them back, the scarf suddenly was not there at the tea shop. Horribly disorganized and borderline sketchy company! I take people all over the world on food and wine tours and I will never use this company again.

The tour was a good combination of information and food, with not an heavy amount of walking. Maybe more infos about food and venues would be cool but it was indeed a great tour with Jose Manuel, I’d recommend this tour as one of the first things to do in Porto to get familiar with the local food!

My adult son and I had a wonderful time on our secret food tour in Porto. Marta Costa, our guide, is a native of Porto and not only took us to authentic places to experience the traditional eats, but she shared with us some of the historic facts of the city and stories about the places we visited.
Marta is very personable, knowledgeable, and most of all very personable and friendly. She made our experience fun and memorable.

Marta did everything to make this the perfect start to our visit to Porto. She introduced us to Portuguese foods but also pointed out other interesting businesses and potential stops about town. She offered suggestions of places to see and dine that we would never have thought of. Marta introduced us to foods, wines, outdoor markets, small restaurants that we would have overlooked, Portuguese culture, and local history. She made it an enjoyable and very informative introduction to Porto. This is a great way to start your trip. Thanks Marta!
