It is an impressive day of hiking in the Cordillera Vilcanota, "which is very close to the highest and sacred mountain in the South of Peru called the Ausangate (6,377mts). This "Apu" bearer of life is the Guardian of one of the most pristine ecosystems in the world. Thus, our walk will be accompanied by snow-capped peaks, glaciers, herds of llamas and alpacas. This hike offers a selection of wildlife and very impressive landscapes. This will probably be one of the best things you will see in your visit to Peru.

The views were amazing. Pickup was on time. Food was pretty good and plentiful. You don’t need to bring food but bring water. None is offered but you can buy it at the food stop. Guide was all business, not very personable. Price was good. It seems as if all group tours do the exact same thing no matter how much you pay. Long slow bumpy drive with one stop for food in the middle. The stop is the same for all tours. Long tough day but worth it.

Rainbow Mtn review
Pick up was prompt at 04:35am just as they told us. It was an 1.5 hr drive to breakfast, then another 2 hr drive into the Andes. (You can buy hats, gloves, snacks, etc at breakfast gift shop. We bought handmade gloves for 25 soles).
After a bumpy 2-hour drive up the Andes, we arrived at 10am. (Cheers to resilient tail bones!) My husband & I opted to take roundtrip motorbikes for 90 soles/pp ($22USD) because it was snowing & the paths were muddy & slick.
For us, 1.5 hrs was more than enough to take pictures & start heading back slowly. Then it was a 2-hour drive to lunch (at the same place we had breakfast) before heading back to Cusco. We arrived at 5pm, in time for dinner on our own & going back to our hotel.
My personal recommendations for Rainbow Mtn is: poncho, dress WARM, hiking shoes/boots, inhalers if you have asthma, bring snacks, change for the restroom, and exact change if you want to rent horses, ATVs, or dirt bikes (because some of the locals will tell you they don’t have change & will keep what they owe you). Expect to get muddy & dirty. The view & pics w/llamas & alpacas are worth it! (They accept donations & do not have a set price.)

Pick up on time. The van is comfortable. The food which are included breakfast and lunch plenty of variety clean preparation and very tasty it's a buffet. For the price is very cheap compared to other travel tour. The tour to rainbow mountain is memory to keep forever. So glad we made it to the top even it was snowing the view with mountain covered with snow is wonderful. I'm 67 years old my partner is 60 but as long as you are fit to walk everyone can make it. The elderly like me can make it too as long you are well. It's not steep make it slow take your time this is not a competition. Don't shy to make frequent rest and continue to have small frequent drinks. I have with me dark cocoa choco 70 percent in my pocket and i take two paracetamol 30 minutes before hiking and go and remember this is not a competition. But there are options horses and motorbike to make short hiking whatever is your choice . Elderly can make it too to the top just prepared. Bravo to the tour guide and the company well organised and very highly recommended. Many thanks.

Very organized and professional tour. We had a great time hiking up and the views were beautiful! Locals have horses and motorbikes available if you are feeling the altitude!

Heber the guide was great, he makes sure we are doing well during the hike. I had my young daughter with me, Heber took good care of us. Breakfast and lunch was good too. The driver Edwin is very skillful, we felt safe and comfortable. Thank you both! HERBER FOREVER💯

I made a reservation the day before and went to Rainbow Mountain, which is about 5000m above sea level. The weather was good and I was impressed by the beautiful scenery. I was a woman in my late twenties and participated alone, but it was no problem. Abel, the guide, was very professional and attentive to service. I wasn't confident in my legs, so I climbed the mountain on horseback. We left early in the morning and it was quite cold when we took a break for breakfast. I felt like I was sweating as the sun rose.

This tour was amazing. We had excellent food, and the guide was very helpful the whole time.
It was cloudy when we got there, but once we got to the top and caught our breath after the hike. The clouds cleared, and the mountains came out in beautiful color.
One warning I have is to have the Muka and coca with you. You will need it and dress warm.
