At a time it felt as if why we are subjecting ourselves to the brutality of waking up at 130 AM, bearing super super cold and windy weather, and then biking down empty stomach. But the experience has to be one of the best of all the experiences we have had. It is an early morning but prompt start; it is cold at the top and the winds make it worse (we found a large rock and stood behind it for a long while). If you can have a tripod for a time lapse of the sunrise it is fantastic. The scenery is beautiful. The bike ride down felt like the instructors were well in control. It is more like a skateboarding that a bike ride because you hardly ever pedal or break into a sweat. However you do need to use the brakes quite a bit else you feel out of control. The stop at Paui is a nice one for a much needed breakfast. Overall very very fun experience

Nani, Everett and Joe were amazing!! The early morning is definitely worth the wake up. The guides were fantastic and took all riding abilities into play. Options to stop if uncomfortable were easy. Hauling ass down the hill for the adventure seekers was also GREAT! The information we learned was fun and educational. My only advice…there is no damn coffee anywhere for the first five hours and it’s stupid early so make some and bring it with you. Maybe a pair of gloves. It is cold and I like cold weather.

We booked with this company after the original company we booked with canceled our reservation the day before our excursion because we were the only ones booked in that time slot. This company has older bikes but they seemed to be well maintained. We did the sunrise tour, we were the lucky 50% that got an amazing sunrise. It is not the guides fault if it ends up too cloudy to see a sunrise. It was 35 degrees up there so dress warm. They provided a hooded fleece lined poncho to wrap around yourself while you wait for the sunrise, that was a nice surprise. The ride down the volcano felt safe being able to ride in the middle of the car lane. We liked the guided tour so that we didn’t have to worry about when to ride on the side so cars could pass. The van following us let the lead know and then we would all move over. There isn’t very much vehicle traffic going down the mountain so it was a very nice ride down. I am not a biker by any means, truth be told it had been a few years since I have been on a bike and we are in our 50’s so I was a little nervous but I had a blast. The stop in the little town for a drink or snack was very enjoyable. Make sure you stop in the store that carries the cookies from the Maui Cookie Lady (delicious). You can bring a backpack that you leave on the bus, for water bottles, snacks, and a place to put the clothes you take off as it warms up. Just be prepared to tip half to the bus drivers after they bring you down to the beginning of the biking part and the other half of the tip to the guides at the end of the biking part. We were not prepared to do that so we gave it all at the end and they said they would give the portion to the bus drivers. Everyone we dealt with was kind, funny, and informative.

10/10 recommendation! Had the best time on this trip with such wonderful guides! I was a little worried at first and thought I couldn’t handle the speed or turns, but they make sure you feel comfortable and safe. There’s also the option of riding in the van at anytime. Such a great experience! So glad we did this! Thank you again!

My wife and I had such a wonderful time heading up to Haleakala with Aleeka followed by the downhill bike tour with Manny. Both had us cracking up with laughter many times and their knowledge and expertise made both portions of the excursion worthwhile. Most importantly we felt safe because driving up to the sunrise and then biking 18 miles can be nerve racking, but we were in good hands and I would definitely recommend this to anyone (just dress warm!).

The sunrise is amazing and the pictures do not do it justice. You have to experience this in person and should be the number one thing to do when coming to Maui! Mountain Riders provided an experience that we will never forget and they were so friendly and patient with everyone because of course we all have a different level of experience when riding bikes. Nani, G, Bobby and Joe kept us all safe and we had so much fun. We will be back to do it again soon ❤️🤙 -Mahalo- James and Lisa Sallee

This experience with Mountain Riders was amazing! The views, the history of the mountain, the riding! The driver Abe was so careful and drove safely the whole time. Spencer did an excellent job with explaining some history and significant points of the mountain. I was nervous to ride and Manny really put me at ease and helped me have the best time! My Portuguese sister Nani was the best! I highly recommend this excursion.
