Our knowledgeable guide will pick you up at your accommodation in Barcelona and take you through Besalú, Vic, Santa Pau and Castellfollit de la Roca, where you will get to know the rich medieval heritage of Catalunya.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This tour will start from your accommodation in Barcelona. Your guide will pick you up at any apartment or hotel in Barcelona, you are staying in. Please, make sure to specify the exact adress of your accomodation when booking. After the pick-up is completed, you will head to the first destination of your tour. The first destination of this tour is Vic. Vic is one of the most important medieval cities in Catalonia. You will be travelling with a maximum of 8 people and your guide. On the road, your guide will be explaining important and curious things that you will see in the scenery. You will certainly enjoy the beautiful landscape, while heading to your first stop.

Plaça Major de Vic is the biggest square of the city. You will defenitely pass on this square, where you will see the town hall - a Gothic building, the Casa Comella - a 19th century modernist palace and other interresting buildings. In the middle of the square is a large open space without pavement where fairs, markets and concerts are held.

The guide will show you the most interessant heritage from the medieval era in Vic. The Roman Temple of Vic was the ancient Roman temple of Ausa. Through the years, it has been preserved in perfect condition. It is one of the two Roman temples of Spain, to have been completely preserved. In Vic, you will have the chance to taste the tipical Catalan Gastronomy. Your guide will be the perfect person to reccomend the best places to eat.

When leaving Vic, you will pass in Castellfollit de la Roca. This little medieval village is located on the top of a 40 meters cliff of a very mysterious basaltic wall. An other village, you will get to see is Santa Pau, located in the south-east of the plain of Olot, in the heart of the volcanic zone. These places are very beautiful locations, perfect occasion to take amazing pictures.

The last stop of this tour is Besalú. This town is dated from the Middle Ages, and you will discover its cultural and natural heritage. Its narrow streets will lead you to the center of the town in one of the best conserved medieval old towns of Catalonia, which was named Historical and Artistic National Monument in 1996. Your guide will explain you the importance of the jewish community who lived during the Middle Ages in the town and its patrimonial inheritance. Finally you will see the masterpiece of Besalú, the medieval bridge. This bridge is very famous in all the catalan territory because of its views from this medieval architecture bridge with an antique and charming essence.

We had a wonderful tour with Manu who explained all of the monuments in detail! He had a great sense of humor and made sure we got to do and see everything we wanted. I would definitely recommend the tour!

My daughter 10.5 and I went on this trip yesterday. Our group was so lovely and our tour guide Manu was so positive and great. All three towns and the picturesque stop were fabulous. Vic was cold so dress warm. Any town in the morning starts off colder than Barcelona and then by your second stop you don’t need to layer abd we sat outside for lunch comfortably. He had a restaurant he loved for paella that was closed for the holiday but we had great fish, ice cream, some paella, veggies and fruit at the buffet before bisalu and all drinks were included including sangria and my daughter sat with two lovely women in their 20s who were fantastic with her. Manu didn’t pressure anyone to eat in the same place and just wanted us to be happy. We are Jewish so seeing the mikvah was really important to us so we walked up the back end and could see through the window the oldest mikvah preserved from the 400s. You could spend all day walking through the streets of besalu. The Jewish preservations were smaller there than girona but there is one narrow street and preserved house abd some remains from the synagogue. After seeing the mikvah and his summary of how that defines a neighborhood helped clench my daughters appreciation for our history. The second medieval town was out of a story book too Paso?!?!
The van was very comfortable and we had such a great day. We could have spent another hour just taking in everything but the trip itself did not move too fast .. we felt like we enjoyed it all. It’s just everything you see is so amazing. You can see the Pyrenese from a distance. We did girona the day prior on our own via train which was a nice intro before seeing Besalú as well. The churches in Vic are stunning. The churches in besalu were not reconstructed from the earlier erra to the same extent and were amazing as you can appreciate their simplicity and the ways they were constructed.

We had such a wonderful Medieval villages tour with Manu! He is very enthusiastic, knoweldgable, and positive! He has a very warm personality and his laugh and jokes are contagious. We were smiling and laughing all day long! Cant wait to go on another tour with Manu!

Our guide, Manu, is very knowledgeable and humorous. The whole trip was fun and smooth. Even I traveled alone, but I felt like traveling with a family. He made everyone in the group so welcoming. I loved everything about this tour and will definitely join again when I am in Barcelona.

Please for your best time in Barcelona.. beat the crowds head out to 3 amazing medieval villages and countryside with this tour.
Our guide Miquel made sure everything was comfortably timed to enjoy everywhere went.
Ending the day with an incredible meal at the beach in the most amazing village. It reminded me of Santorini, Capri, and Cinque terre... this is called Calella de Palafrugell. Sincerely The Emmons

Best tour locations and guide Miquel we have had. The unbelievable medieval villiages bit wow... time relaxing at the best small fishing village on the Mediterranean we've been to without crowds, loads of blue windless skies to enhance the day. Thank you for this memory Miquel. The Hendersons

We did a private tour with Miquel. He was a wonderful, witty, and very knowledgeable. He was good driver too. The pace that he went was perfect. My family really enjoyed our day touring Montserrat, Besalu and Tosa Del Mar.
