Head to the mystic mountain of Montserrat. This natural park, with its very peculiar peaks, protects the spiritual essence of Catalonia. For almost 1,000 years, a Benedictine community has lived in these mountains located 60 km away from Barcelona. On the way, listen to some interesting stories about Catalonia and its bounding to the holy mountain, scene of pilgrims since ancient times and part of the route to Santiago de Compostela. Your guide will share important information to understand the heritage you will discover during the tour.

The Rocky Massif of Montserrat has been declared as Natural Park in 1987, and characterised by the rounded shape of its peaks. This incredible 4000-foot wonder is easily recognisable by its ''serrated'' top from which it got his name. Once you reach the monastery, you have plenty of options and your guide will always adjust to your interests. We invite you to take an easy walk of around 30 min to enjoy one of the most astonishing views of the natural park, but if you wish you can also decide to enjoy other activities that the mountain offers.

Visit the Basilica of Montserrat, house of the serene image of the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, a polychrome Romanesque carving dating from the 12th century. The legend says that in the year 880 some shepherd boys found a statue of the black madonna, the "Moreneta", in a grotto. A chapel was built on this site that soon became a place of pilgrimage.

Reach the peak of the holy mountain to enjoy a bird's eye view of the entire Montserrat Monastery and of the natural park. On clear days, you will enjoy uninterrupted views of the whole of Catalunya.

Since the funicular that brings you to this holy place is under revision, we leave the option to you. If you feel like walking for around 30 min, you can have access to the Holy Cave, where, standing to the legend, the virgin is said to have appeared. The site has, since then, become an authentic center for pilgrimage and prayer. From there, you will also be able to see the Cross of San Miguel and the wonderful views from this side of the mountain. End your tour listening to the angelic voices of La Escolania de Montserrat, one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe (subject to seasonal availability). This musical treat will conclude your mystical Montserrat visit.

This was our only day trip planned for our Barcelona stay, and it was magnificent! Our private tour guide, Alba, was very sweet and easy to communicate with. We had an hour drive there and back, and we felt like we were speaking with a friend. Montserrat is more amazing than the pictures! Such a beautiful, spiritual place, and being able to visit the Black Madonna was extra special. Alba was very knowledgeable about Montserrat, the history, and its’ importance in Catalonia. Would 100% recommend this tour and ask for Alba!

Alba was really knowledgeable, considerate, friendly and kind. She gave lots of information about the Basilica, Mary and Montserrat. I was travelling with my mother who gets motion sickness driving on windy roads. Alba did everything she could to make her feel comfortable. I highly recommend Alba as a tour guide.

We had an excellent time visiting the Montserrat with our 2 daughters, aged 3 and 8. The Basilica is absolutely worth visiting, it is beautiful, serene and peaceful. The funicular is a bit expensive but fun for kids.

Our trip was made much more pleasant by our tour guide, Alba. Alba was punctual, knowledgeable and truly loves to be a guide. She drives cautiously and safely and is very friendly. She is great with children and made sure she directly engaged both our daughters. She never rushed us and ensured we had a great time. We strongly recommend her services and wish her good luck!

Alba was great. We had some special needs, but she accommodated them, and switched things around on the fly. She was very knowledgeable and personable, and good with teenagers so that made it better.

From start to finish this has been a wonderful experience with our knowledgeable and thoughtful guide Alba.
Her depth of knowledge of Montserrat is astounding and her enthusiasm was so refreshing. We covered a broad range of topics besides Montserrat and found her lovely to converse with and share experiences from our country.
